Open Call for Poetry

My collaborator Angela Burdon and I are editing a poetry anthology which will be published by Lungs Project in Autumn 2019. This open call is aimed at poets of colour who identify as cis women, trans women, and non-binary. This anthology seeks to explore poetry as a space for womxn from systemically oppressed backgrounds to cultivate and exercise resistance.

Creative Incubator Programme

Lungs Project has just announced a new web residency programme for artists and writers which will predominantly take place on the organisation’s Instagram page throughout 2019. The Creative Incubator Programme will focus on each participant’s modes of thinking and producing. This programme is a result of an ongoing dialogue rooted in solidarity, generosity and peer support as the quintessence of our curatorial ethics. Every month an artist will take over Lungs’ IG to share their creative process.

Film Screening: Poly Voices

Please come and join us for an evening of film screenings in conjunction with the launch of the third issue of our publication. “Poly Voices” brings together three filmmakers selected from an international open call under a three-part, thematic framework. Featured artists are Kariim Case, Laura Hyunjhee Kim, and Müge Yıldız.

Lungs Issue Three Launch

The third issue of Lungs is launching with a night of film screenings and a party. This year we present an international selection of artists of colour exclusively! The event will include tunes from the local DJ duo Shifting Sounds and film screenings from three of the publication’s featured artists.

Exhibition: A Study of Imaginary Chasms

I am delighted to have curated this group exhibition which I developed in collaboration with Gosforth Civic Theatre. “A Study of Imaginary Chasms” brings together the work of three women artists; Ella Ray Barnes, Fang Qi, and Jill Tate, all of who are connected to the North East through unique pathways. The exhibition thematically responds to “The Class Project”, a one-woman play written and performed by Rebecca Atkinson-Lord.

New Art Social

I am participating in a panel discussion on “Engaging People Through Creativity” at New Art Social, a series of events organised to offer an opportunity for creative people to gain an insight into other people’s artistic process. New Art Social is a night at which exciting new and established writers, poets and artists share their work through readings and panel discussions. It is curated by author Guy Mankowski, who aims to break down the barriers which keep the wealth of artistic talent of Newcastle in isolation.

Exhibition: Something or Nothing

I am showing some of my cuneiform clay tablets in a group exhibition at Abington Studios in Blackpool. Something or Nothing is curated by Joseph Doubtfire and Garth Gratrix. Something or Nothing brings together small, bitesized, miniature works–things which may simply be small, parts of larger constructions, or speculative utterances of things to come.

LUNGS Manifesto

My collaborator, artist and curator, Angela Wingate-Burdon and I have recently published a self-reflective manifesto laying out our ambitions for our curatorial collective, Lungs Project. Exciting times ahead!

Performance: The Tale of Sitare

Video documentation of a story telling performance I developed in collaboration with poet and philologist Mete Ozel. Performed during the preview of my solo show Anthropological Conjectures: The Tale of Sitare.
